Adapting to change: 2020 Virtual Showcase

On October 28, 2020, C4K invited the community to celebrate youth member’s work at the first-ever, Virtual Showcase. The annual Showcase is normally held in-person to bring our members, volunteers, staff, and the local community together to recognize our students’ STEAM projects. Due to Covid-19, students and volunteers developed an online Showcase using CoSpaces, an educational platform featuring virtual and augmented realities.

“Throughout the pandemic, C4K youth have committed to continuing to learn, create and grow their technology skills,” explains C4K Executive Director, Kala Sommerville “We can’t host our in-person event but our talented members want to share their projects with the community. Visiting C4K’s Virtual Showcase is an opportunity to celebrate and support the hard work of these dedicated youth. Creating a showcase in virtual reality provided youth an opportunity to learn a new skill AND is our way of celebrating the efforts of our C4K members.”

Over the course of the year, the youth at C4K and their mentors collaborated to create their STEAM-focused projects (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Despite social distancing requirements, members produced outstanding, memorable work.
