Mentor Spotlight: Ingy!

Meet Ingy ElSayed Aly, who started mentoring with us in January 2019. This summer, Ingy and youth member Asad, are learning how to ethically hack websites to identify security gaps. Ultimately, they will use their hacking data to build strong and secure websites. Ingy’s positive demeanor and enthusiasm for computer science make her a great mentor and role model. She is especially interested in working with youth on projects that involve: Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Robotics and Electronics like Arduino & Raspberry Pi.

Ingy graduated from the American University in Cairo, Egypt with a BS in Computer Science and is now working on her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Virginia. She works on combining artificial intelligence with robotics for search and rescue applications.

“My goals as a student are to research more efficient and secure methods in robotics in order to propose better solutions for real-life problems. My goals as an educator are to help students understand and hopefully appreciate the field of computer science as much as I do. ” – Ingy ElSayed Aly,

We love our volunteer mentors! Mentors are critical to the life and mission of C4K. Mentoring at C4K is collaboration, goal-setting, trust, consistency, friendship, curiosity, coaching, listening, advocacy, and fun! Volunteer mentors vary in background and technical skill-level and meet with youth once a week for about a year.

When not volunteering in C4K’s Clubhouse makerspace, Ingy loves to travel and has already visited over ten different countries and speaks four languages. She is fascinated by different cultures and the beneficial impact that technology can have in saving lives.

Mentoring at C4K is an excellent opportunity for members of the public to serve as role models to youth while building skills and connecting with like-minded volunteers in our community. New Mentor Training is on the first Thursday of each month, 6pm-8pm, at C4K: 945 2nd St SE, Charlottesville, VA 22902.  Call Tricia for information: 434-817-1121 x 2 or express interest here:
