Building Confidence, Pride, and Possibility Through STEAM at C4K

Each semester, we ask our youth to share how their C4K experience has shaped their confidence, skills, and sense of the future. The Spring 2025 survey responses show meaningful growth in key areas that research links directly to strong STEM identity development. Let’s take a look:

Key Findings

95% of youth said they feel more confident using technology.
This 16% boost in self-assurance as compared to our fall 2024 cohort means our members are more likely to take creative risks, solve problems, and adapt to new tools. They are learning essential 21st-century skills at our Clubhouse that will serve them in any future they choose, whether that’s in tech or elsewhere.

97% of youth said they believe they could pursue a career in technology if they chose to.
That’s a 25-point jump from our fall cohort. Why does this matter? Because believing that you can do something is often the first step toward doing it. Research shows that when young people develop a sense of belonging and capability in STEM fields, they are more likely to continue on those pathways. This sense of “possible self” is essential, especially for youth who may not have seen people like them in tech careers before.

100% of youth reported feeling proud of the work they created.
Pride signals ownership. When young people feel ownership of their learning, it strengthens their motivation, builds resilience, and nurtures an identity grounded in growth and achievement.

92% of new members reported using new tools, programs, or technology.
Exposure to unfamiliar technology broadens what youth see as accessible. Trying new things and succeeding builds momentum. At C4K, providing access to industry-level technology is at the heart of how we support our members in expanding their idea of what’s possible.

Together, these findings tell a powerful story: that project-based STEAM learning, supported by mentoring and access to real tools, helps youth develop confidence, a sense of pride, and a growing belief in their future potential.

We’re inspired by their progress and grateful to the mentors, families, partners, and donors who make it possible.

In Their Own Words

When asked about their favorite part of being at C4K, our youth members shared moments that reflect growth, creativity, and connection:

  • “Getting out of my comfort zone”
  • “Being able to build a relationship with my mentor”
  • “Using the computers to create, the 3D printer, as well as the Wacom tablet”

These reflections underscore what makes C4K unique: a space where young people feel supported to take risks, build meaningful relationships, and explore real-world tools that spark their creativity and curiosity.
