We are excited to share two of our youth members participated in the eighth annual Capital Hill Day, hosted by MENTOR and MENTOR Virginia!
Members Valeria and Laila, and Recruitment & Retention Coordinator, Tricia Howell, spoke with state representatives from the offices of Senator Kaine, Representative Good, and Senator Warner.
In the meetings, they advocated for youth mentoring in Virginia and across the nation, asked the representatives to sign the “Dear Colleague” letter to show their support for youth mentoring, and inquired about funding resources available to programs beyond those for delinquent youth.
Creating and engaging in spaces where our young people feel heard is what we value most. We encourage our youth members to use their voices and advocate for things they believe in when they can. We are thrilled our members could be a part of the bigger conversations at Capitol Hill Day! Way to go Valeria and Laila!
