Soundwalk at IX Art Park: MRC and C4K Youth Collaborate

In collaboration with the Music Resource Center, C4K members and MRC members participated in the Soundwalk workshop series! The term “soundwalk” refers to the intentional focus on the sounds one hears on a walk in nature. The term was first used by the World Soundscape Project, a research group established by R. Murray Schafer whose main goal was to” draw attention to the sonic environment through a course in noise pollution, as well as from his personal distaste for the more raucous aspects of Vancouver’s rapidly changing soundscape”(Simon Fraser University).

C4K and MRC members explored the IX art park, taking note of the different sounds they heard. As a result of the soundwalk, they gained experience in audio engineering and were able to create and produce sounds inspired by the IX Art park using handheld microphones. The goal of this project is that you experience each art exhibit through sounds respective to the exhibit you are near or are engaging with.
