C4K: steering youth from diverse backgrounds into STEM

We were recently identified by Charlottesville Tomorrow as an organization that is encouraging underrepresented identities to enter the STEM industry!

According to an article by reporter Billy Jean Louis, companies like Castle Hill Gaming and WillowTree Inc. are taking massive strides to increasingly diversify their workforce. This trend is part of a widespread movement to increase the representation of all identities in the STEM field, attempting to counter recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau that suggests disparities across the industry.

While talking about community outreach efforts, Christy Phillips, Chief Talent Officer at WillowTree Inc., identified us as an organization that provides opportunities for and encourages underrepresented groups to explore STEM. Phillips also mentioned our recent field trip to WillowTree Inc., where our members were able to witness firsthand what a career in STEM might look like.
