Equipping Youth for Success: The Clubhouse Network’s IMPACTS Grant at C4K

At C4K, we’re passionate about equipping young people to explore, create, and innovate with technology. As a proud member of The Clubhouse Network—a global community of 153 Clubhouses across 20 countries—we’re part of a movement that has been inspiring creativity and confidence through STEM discovery since its founding in 1993 with the MIT Media Lab.

We’re honored to be one of 10 sub-awardees of The Clubhouse Network’s IMPACTS 4.0 initiative. This three-year grant, funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, is designed to help youth build strong support networks, develop confidence in their STEM identities, and prepare for bright futures in STEM careers through college and career readiness initiatives.

What does it take to build strong support systems for youth and why is it so important?

The Power of a Strong Support Network

Having a reliable support network can make all the difference for a young person navigating challenges in school, career, and life. Research consistently shows that youth with strong, trusted relationships—whether with mentors, family members, or peers—are more resilient, better able to problem-solve, and more confident in pursuing their goals.

Support systems help young people feel a sense of belonging and stability. For youth from low-income households or underserved communities, these networks are especially crucial in opening doors to opportunities they may not have otherwise imagined. At C4K, we believe that providing a safe space, trusted mentors, and engaging projects is key to nurturing that support system and helping young people thrive.

How C4K Builds Support Networks

At C4K, we work toward the goals of the IMPACTS 4.0 grant every day by focusing on relationship-building and experiential learning. Here’s how:

  1. 1:1 Mentoring
Each of our youth members is paired with a mentor who serves as a guide and learning partner. This trusted relationship allows students to feel supported, valued, and encouraged to explore their creativity and interests in STEAM.
  2. Project-Based Learning
Instead of traditional classroom settings, we foster learning through hands-on projects. Whether it’s building a remote control car, designing a video game, or producing music, students work collaboratively with their mentors to bring their ideas to life. This process not only develops technical skills but also builds communication, collaboration, and critical thinking abilities.
  3. Community Building Events
Through events like Project Pitch Night, Community Building Night, and the Project Showcase, youth and their families connect with mentors, peers, and community members in meaningful ways. These events celebrate students’ achievements while fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
  4. STEM Identity and Career Exploration
By encouraging youth to explore their passions and gain hands-on experience in STEM, we help them see themselves as part of the STEM world. This shift in self-perception is critical in boosting their confidence and preparing them for college and careers in these fields.

Why It Matters

When youth feel supported and confident, their potential is limitless. They’re more likely to overcome challenges, set ambitious goals, and achieve success in school, work, and life. Through initiatives like IMPACTS 4.0, we’re helping to create a future where all young people—regardless of their background—can thrive in STEM fields and beyond.

We’re proud to be part of this global movement to inspire the next generation of innovators, creators, and changemakers. Together, we’re proving that STEM truly is for everyone.

Join us in building brighter futures. Whether you’re a parent, mentor, or supporter, there’s a role for everyone in creating a stronger, more inclusive STEM community.
